Friday Fight 6 - The Blessing Book

Every Friday, when I wake and pray, God places something on my heart to help me fight darkness beginning in our minds. Today is FF6.

Today I am writing about learning how to effectively and righteously fight darkness through praise.

The Blessing Book:

Several years ago, for Christmas, my daughter Rylee bought me a small journal. The gift was sweet, but the treasure was the writing from her inside the book. Through prayer, God placed it on her heart instructing me to write all the things I am thankful for each day. It was awesome, but I did not truly understand the spiritual effectiveness of writing in this journal daily. I put it down and picked it up a few times before I got it.

When we position ourselves with a thankful heart, we are fighting darkness with our thoughts of thanksgiving, joy, and praise; we are writing all the ways God is blessing us each day. I did not understand the value of praise until I stopped a few years later. It was incredible to me the difference in my attitude and mindset. I immediately noticed I complained more when I wasn’t journaling in my blessing book. Since I was writing every evening, I realized I was looking for things to write about throughout the day and essentially “taking note” of each one. I never wrote about the argument with my child, or car repairs, or chaos at work. Sometimes the blessing would be a person, or the colorful sky I noticed on the drive to work, or the text from an old friend to extend love or the surprise cup of coffee on my desk. It is not journaling all parts of the day; it is writing daily all the ways you see God’s blessings through people and situations. The blessings will vary for each of us, but we find them when we position ourselves to look for them! When we do, they bring joy and peace to our hearts because we are focusing on blessings from God. I slept better after writing every evening. This blessing book might seem like a small gesture, but it is very effective. Darkness will have a more difficult time working in your mind when searching for and tracking things to be thankful for throughout each day. Try it and let me know how you feel once you begin. This is one of the tools I use to help me fight my battles, I hope this helps someone today.
