Friday Fight 38 - Multitasking or Multi-Distracting?

Every Friday, when I wake and pray, God places something on my heart to help me fight darkness beginning in our minds. Today is FF38.

I’ve heard people say how great they are at multitasking, proud of their ability to do multiple things simultaneously. I’m guilty for sure! But, how do we feel when we’re talking to someone and they’re looking at their phone? Or, in the middle of a conversation, the person we’re speaking to starts randomly texting? It makes one feel less important, right? What about when we are spending time with God, praying and reading His Word, but mentally preparing our to-do lists as well?

Multitasking or Multi-Distracting?

Many people rely upon their ability to multitask. But how does our reliance and comfort of multitasking in our personal lives influence our spiritual lives? What happens when we start trying to multitask our time with God? He wants our undivided attention, not just when it’s convenient for us. Being still is necessary to hear God speaking to our hearts.

What weapon is darkness using? Darkness wants to keep us BUSY, Buried Under Satan’s Yoke, too busy to give anything or anyone our full attention, especially God.

What is our fighting stance? Making a conscious effort to break these habits one day at a time.

How? When people are speaking, stop and look at them. Do not interrupt and focus on actively listening. Be present. There is a difference between our presence and being present. Be intentional about the quality vs. quantity of time we spend with people. We dilute the quality of things we do in our lives when trying to do multiple tasks simultaneously.

Multitasking is not something we master but a strategy we use in attempts to manage our chaos. It prevents us from devoting our full attention to one thing or area. As a result, we aren’t doing anything well; God wants more from us.

Let’s not be so distracted by our time constraints that we become comfortable merely organizing our chaos. Break things down to the truths of who God is and how much He loves us. Let’s shift our focus to be present for God to work in our lives.
