Friday Fight 51 - Identity of Identified
Every Friday, when I wake and pray, God places something on my heart to help me fight darkness beginning in our minds. Today is FF51.
For this lesson, think back to a time when feelings of inadequacy occupied our minds. Now think about what caused these feelings to surface? What life changes took place, and what defined our identity?
Identity or Identified:
How would we describe ourselves? Would we automatically answer with worldly values? Could we speak about our kids, spouse, job, traveling we've done, wealth portfolio, physique, etc.? These are all rewarding and beautiful blessings but are sadly all subject to change. Unlike God, He never changes. So what happens when the things that identify us change suddenly? How does it impact our self-worth, and what can we do?
Suppose our kids are grown, our marriage is suffering, our health changes, or anything else. If the things we have made foundational in our lives are no longer as rewarding or have drastically changed, our lives will also drastically change.
What if, when asked to describe ourselves, we are first identified in Christ and following Him. What if God was first, making all other identities secondary. When our world changes and we have made Christ foundational, we are identified in Him, which never changes. Being placed in Christ means He forms everything we do and impacts those around us. We will experience the fullness of God's plan and always rest in His assurance when our world falls apart. When things around us change, we can remain in Him.
Satan knows every person's name but labels us by our sins. Through darkness, we are identified by our hurts, failures, shame, and any mistake we have ever made. However, God knows every single sin we have ever committed and the guilt we carry. But God only calls us by our names, His children, fearfully and wonderfully made.
Declaring to be a Christ-follower means we are first redeemed. Yes, we will still feel inadequate at times, but it will not define us. Instead, God will represent us and bind us to His word's truth, bringing us continual restoration and peace no matter what we are enduring.
