Friday Fight 31 - Area and Perimeter

Every Friday, when I wake and pray, God places something on my heart to help me fight darkness beginning in our minds. Today is FF31.

How often do we find ourselves frustrated by things beyond our control? We begin to feel sorry for ourselves or worry about things beyond our understanding, yet these circumstances inadvertently are outlining our hearts. We focus on these hurtful things going on around us and question God’s plan. We pray against it, but what else can we do?

Area and Perimeter:

How strong is the area within the perimeter of our lives? Sounds like a word problem, right? Often we blame the conditions around us but tend to ignore what is within.

Take all the things that surround and define us each day and apply these math concepts. The formula for finding the perimeter is to add all the sides together; imagine a boundary. So often, we see spiritual warfare as things that surround us, affecting us in a measured or calculated way. Sadly, darkness is not a definitive line we can measure, pray against, and expect unwavering freedom.

The formula for finding the area multiplies the sides, covering every square inch of something. This is how Satan destroys and how we can lose the fight, only considering the perimeter of our sides (problem) while neglecting the area of our ourselves (heart).

How does darkness work? Darkness knows we tend to fight by applying only one formula. We have a tendency to focus on the perimeter, excluding the area of our hearts, giving darkness this advantage.

How do we fight? Of course, we pray for things that surround us, but we have to pray for our hearts first. We win the fight by defending the will of God because His strength comes from within.

Since darkness works in the areas of our hearts that we aren’t focusing on, God’s love is the most incredible weapon to fight this. Before focusing our prayers on the chaos around us, perhaps we also focus on the areas within us that we have not given to God. Surrendering our whole heart to God allows Him to work from the inside out on our behalf.
