Friday Fight 270: Remaining in His Presence
Every Friday morning, during my quiet time with the Lord, He faithfully places something on my heart that speaks to the subtle, internal battles many of us face. This is Friday Fight 270.
Remaining in His Presence
Key Scripture: "Never stop praying.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NLT)
Did you know we spend nearly a third of our lives asleep? Some of us sleep peacefully, while others snore, toss and turn, grind our teeth, talk in our sleep, or remain completely unaware of what is happening around us. Yet even in sleep, our bodies continue to function in ways we do not control. Life does not stop simply because our awareness fades.
If our physical lives continue apart from our conscious awareness, perhaps our relationship with God is deeper than the moments when words are spoken. Most people think prayer ends when the words stop. But what if fellowship with God was never meant to be limited to our conscious awareness?
In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Scripture tells us to "never stop praying." This does not mean we are constantly speaking words, but that our lives become a continual posture of dependence upon God. Prayer is more than words; it is the posture of a heart that remains turned toward Him in trust, surrender, and worship.
There are seasons when God calls His people into deeper levels of intercession—times of sustained prayer for healing, restoration, deliverance, and breakthrough. During these seasons, prayer extends beyond a single moment or gathering and becomes the rhythm of a surrendered life as we stand in the gap for others.
A surrendered life remains in communion with God even while the body rests. Before we close our eyes, we can surrender our hearts to Him, trusting that our relationship with Him is not interrupted by sleep. We remain aligned with His will because God neither slumbers nor sleeps, and His presence never departs from His children.
When our hearts are anchored in Christ, even rest becomes an act of trust. Sleep is no longer simply the absence of activity but a reminder that God faithfully watches over us while we can do nothing for ourselves.
Prayer is not confined to scheduled moments or spoken words. It is a life continually surrendered to the Lord, a heart that remains open to His leading, awake or asleep, active or at rest. Our bodies may rest, but our lives remain securely held in the presence of the One who never ceases to care for His people.
Before you go to bed tonight, surrender every burden, every unanswered prayer, and every concern to the Lord. Rest knowing that while you sleep, the God who never sleeps is faithfully watching over you.
