Friday Fight 225: The Breath of a Warrior

Every Friday, when I wake and pray, God places something on my heart to help fight darkness beginning in our minds. Today is FF225.

How often have we struggled with someone, and our first thought is to call a pastor or prayer warrior to request prayer? If your answer is always, that's great! God wants us to come together in prayer and hold each other accountable in our spiritual journey. We should be mindful of allowing ourselves to falsely believe that, individually, our prayers are somehow less effective or that our praise doesn't matter. Spiritual warfare is real, and fighting it begins with each of us. What attributes do we possess to be a spiritual warrior for God?

The Breath of a Warrior:

Have you ever considered that something as simple as breathing could be a weapon against darkness? From the dust of the ground, God created man by breathing life into us. We can use that breath to not only honor Him but to fight against the enemy of our souls.

How often have we been in an unfortunate situation, and someone suggested we take a deep breath before saying something we'd regret? It's simple advice, but it carries spiritual power. The words we speak and the heart behind them carry tremendous spiritual weight. Ephesians 6:18 says, "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people." Spiritual warfare is not only reserved for certain people or a select few. Let's examine how we can utilize the breath that God has given us as a weapon against spiritual warfare.

The Weapon of Prayer:

Our breath becomes a powerful tool when we speak to God and pray for others. Prayers of intercession, petition, deliverance, or declaring God's promises over someone can make the difference in someone's life. Developing a habit of prayer, whether spontaneous or planned, empowers us to be a tool for Christ, strengthening our connection with Him and fighting against the lies that attempt to manipulate our minds.

The tongue has the power to speak life and death. We speak life when we encourage others, share Scripture, and claim our identity in Christ.

The Weapon of Worship:

We use our breath for God's glory through praise and thanksgiving. Worship is a transformative way to shift the spiritual atmosphere, and thanking God in every area of our lives helps us combat spiritual warfare. Whether we sing aloud or quietly whisper a prayer, our breath becomes an offering, and God's presence uplifts and strengthens us.

The Weapon of Silence:

Breath isn't just about our words; it is just as effective when being led by the Holy Spirit to remain still. In my experience, expanding God's kingdom often means being silent, present, and intentionally choosing to listen. We can reveal God's love by being used as a vessel of peace rather than contributing to chaos.

The Weapon of Invitation:

In Scripture, breath often symbolizes the Holy Spirit. Invite the Holy Spirit into situations for His guidance, correction, or comfort. When we quiet our speech, we create space to be led by Him.

Darkness uses all of us as a tool to hurt others. Hurt people hurt people, but those nourished by God can nourish others. Do not let the enemy stop you from praying because you are one person. Sometimes it becomes necessary to rely on others, but we are each called to be spiritual warriors by stepping into that role ourselves. Whether it's through words, worship, silence, or simply breathing in God's presence, we fight by staying connected to Him and consistently inviting the Holy Spirit into every area of our lives.
