Friday Fight 167: Spiritual Stability
Every Friday, when I wake and pray, God places something on my heart to help me fight darkness beginning in our minds. Today is FF167.
When we hear the word stability, what comes to mind? A stacked bank account, a good job, or a life filled with low-risk decisions? In some cases, our perception of stability could leave us stagnant. Let's look at this differently and examine our perception of the word instability. We could envision inconsistent income, temporary employment, or someone with unstable emotions. With these thoughts in mind, let's explore these two words from a spiritual perspective and see how they change our views.
Spiritual Stability:
Stability is described as something not likely to change, whereas instability is unpredictable. When we work towards stability in our lives, what is our first application? Money, assets, and retirement are crucial in today's economy. With that same drive, we must look at how we can apply spiritual stability to our lives. Being prepared financially is essential, but what if it works against the will of God? When God calls us to do something for His kingdom, it can feel like we are moving from stability to instability. When we are uncomfortable, it is easy to refrain from answering His call.
How many of us have been in a situation where we were on one course of life with our job or education, and God called us to do something completely different that made no sense at the time? Looking back, we realize all the doors God opened were life-changing, and we would have missed them had we not surrendered to His calling. Reflecting on these times helps us see the firm ground where God placed our feet. He directs these changes, which become our spiritual resilience because God's ways are stable, eternal, everlasting, and always right. Our ways vary according to our limited perceptions and changing plans, but God orders everything for our eternal guidance.
There is no change or shifting shadow with God, only the manifestation of the eternal principles of what is right. James 1:17 explains that God does not change and is always perfect. What we see in the world today is nothing but inconsistency. Security in Him is not something we should compromise or delay until circumstances seem more favorable. It is a precious gift God offers us, and we are responsible for accepting and nurturing it. Often, rationales can convincingly keep us at a standstill; they are strategic lies from the devil to keep us from walking in the fullness and blessing of God's will.
Let's pray, asking God to reveal any instances where we mistook His will for unstable life choices. It could include selling a home, changing careers, or making relational changes that we perceived would be more secure if we waited. Walking in God’s will is a lifelong journey of ongoing, active communication with Him and time in His Word. This continuous dialogue with God keeps us on the path of His plan and provides us with the spiritual stability we seek.
