Friday Fight 160: Living Water - Sharing God with Others

Every Friday, when I wake and pray, God places something on my heart to help me fight darkness beginning in our minds. Today is FF160.

In a recent post, we reflected on sharing our testimonies, but this week, I am encouraging another perspective. How many of us look at various situations and feel helpless? These seemingly unchanged areas could be an unfavorable work dynamic, family situations, chaos among friends, or society in general. Let's look at what Scripture says about what we can do.

Living Water: Sharing God with Others

If someone asked us if we share our relationship with God, what would our response be? Do we envision ourselves standing on a street corner preaching or sparking a conversation with a stranger and leading them in a salvation prayer? Please know that the premise of this post is different from what people would once refer to as circuit-riding preachers or devoted evangelists preaching at every opportunity. Those who led this way impacted souls for His kingdom, but are we comfortable sharing our faith with others, and how does this align with Scripture? God intends for us to share His love, and He will do the rest. What could sharing our faith mean, or not mean for someone else? Matthew 28:19 says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” We are called to share the treasure of the Trinity, referenced in the great commission.

Quenching a spiritual thirst is like giving someone the most precious commodity known to man, water. Our relationship with God also means telling others about Him and what He teaches us. Sharing from a Christian perspective is not leading others to believe that all we have succeeded in is of our own accord but instead, the blessings we endure because of His grace. We are called to share God's living water. As my pastor says, if we don't, then who will? A friend recently shared a story she heard in church regarding this topic. The story describes a man who participated in a survival program that ultimately ended his life. As part of the survival training, the instructors felt it was best to have him locate water independently rather than share the emergency water they had with them. The man tragically died of dehydration, being only 100 yards from a water supply.

God has given us living water. We don't get to decide who has access to it and who does not. Unlike these instructors, we are supposed to pour out to others what God has given us with a sense of urgency and compassion. God's living water should be offered from Christians to everyone. By sharing God’s grace, we are not only distributors of living water, but also the lifeline that could prevent the spiritual death of those around us.

God’s stream of life supplies living water to the thirsty, dying, broken, and poor. The stream is not just a source but an endless supply of life and healing, which the Lord Jesus Christ promised to His people in the gift of the Holy Spirit. The ocean does not fill anything but only receives the fresh waters of the streams that descend from the mountains. We, too, are watered by the gentle streams of the Holy Spirit, who gives life and health to our souls each day. Let us be grateful for this endless supply and share it with others, for it is our duty and privilege to do so.
