Friday Fight 41 - Being Filled or Being Fooled?
Every Friday, when I wake and pray, God places something on my heart to help me fight darkness beginning in our minds. Today is FF41.
How often do we intend to connect with someone, but we go to reach out, and something stops us? We exhaustedly look at the clock wanting downtime, and instead of connecting, we zone out with Netflix or social media. How does this decision-making determine how our time is filled?
Being Filled or Being Fooled?
We come home tired, have a long to-do list, and prepare for another day. We use our commute to return phone calls but still need to quiet our minds. Conversations can be lengthy, so we choose to escape for a while. Yet, there is that fine line of determining what "a while" actually is. Building our relationships over our perceived rewards is important, but balancing them can be a struggle. Take a deep breath; this is not a correction but an awareness (smiling).
We all have the essentials of appointments, grocery shopping, errands, working out, and other things associated with our week's success. But how much of the "other things" that we choose prevent us from growing our relationships and, more importantly, growing closer to God?
The enemy of our souls will try to disconnect us from others. Before long, we have chunks of time unaccounted for, none of which added any genuine value.
Our attentiveness fights this battle by placing relationships over seemingly fulfilling rewards. So let's try to limit the time spent doing "nothing" and add spiritual value by connecting and communicating with God and others.
A Spiritual Suggestion: set some time aside and note where time is spent and with whom. Reading and exercising are fantastic, but even those can become our top priority if we aren't aware. Without realizing it, binge-watching can become a daily joy, while the occasional social media sneaks into every spare moment. The best of our intentions doesn't last unless we invest in others. Let's pray God reveals to us through this lesson.
