Friday Fight 72 - Holy Spirit Honey

Every Friday, when I wake and pray, God places something on my heart to help me fight darkness beginning in our minds. Today is FF72.

We all have different methods of processing adversity or different approaches when facing decisions. We pray, maybe ask around, or reach out to significant people in our lives for their input. We want to make wise decisions, and despite our best efforts, we need direction on what that looks like in our lives. Let's unpack what it means to attain wisdom and why it is compared to honey in the Bible.

Holy Spirit Honey

In what way do we process the word wisdom? Perhaps we think of intelligence or being clever in various situations, but not so. Wisdom is something the Holy Spirit provides that we can slowly acquire by following Him, a relationship given to us at the cross.

Wisdom is not intelligence, earning multiple degrees, or even the ability to quote Scripture. Instead, it is understanding the essential value and spiritual emphasis of having a relationship with God and walking in His will. This dependency creates a mindset shift that covers life's circumstances through prayer, praise, and obedience; we experience God directly. The wisdom shared with us in this way, by following the leading of the Holy Spirit, will illuminate the truth in whatever season we face.

Let's look at the analogy of honey. Eating honey from honeycombs means ingesting this sweet substance in its natural form directly from the source. As a result, its properties have not been altered, and there is no risk of outside contamination. Likewise, following the Holy Spirit and what He places on our hearts enables a spiritual posture free from judgment or bitterness, things that contaminate our hearts. The Holy Spirit of Truth and Guidance leads us to grace, mercy, and forgiveness instead. When we open our hearts to His leading, we emulate Christ, taking on His appearance as we strive to walk in His character.

We experience the sweetness of Jesus directly from the Holy Spirit's leadership. In this experience, a contaminated heart is renewed by Christ's love and mercy flowing through our souls. We have found that sweet honey, that continuous, never-ending hope in finding Him.

How does darkness operate? Satan will always attempt to block, sever, or destroy the move of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Darkness will lead us to make quick decisions that bring anger and confusion, leading us away from God's plan. Pretending to be God's voice is something Satan manipulates often.

We should always savor our relationship with the Holy Spirit. Then, through prayer, take some time to think about where we have allowed outside contamination to lead us in some of our final decisions. Where have we tolerated the properties of our wisdom to be compromised, going against God's plan? When we open our hearts to His leading, we emulate Christ, taking on His appearance and walking in His character. Wisdom is slowly attained through cyclical seasons of spiritual growth and repeated surrender.
