Friday Fight 35 - Change Requires Change

Every Friday, when I wake and pray, God places something on my heart to help me fight darkness beginning in our minds. Today is FF35.

Now is the time of year when we reflect thankfully and think about needed changes. Yet, how often do we begin a phrase with the words "I need to," but our sentence remains just words? What are the things we would like to change but haven't yet?

Change Requires Change:

Some of us set goals and easily attain them, while others aren't as successful. We declare desired changes, yet they don't always come to pass. Why is that?

Maybe it is a heart goal to spend more time with God, be less reactive, more patient, or not explode in anger. Perhaps saving money or reducing debt is a goal. Regardless of the change, lift everything to God and ask Him to help you make minor adjustments. All require an awareness of the need to change. Einstein said that insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result. Change in any area begins in the mind.

How does darkness work? Darkness wants to promote indulgences. Spending, eating, drinking, gambling, but especially anything to leave us spiritually stagnant. Satan convinces us we do not need to change, then diminishes when we struggle. Satan's lies about not needing the positive changes give us a reason not to make the changes.

How do we fight? Make a list of desired changes and pray. Self-awareness is tremendous, along with being intentional about phrases such as "With God's help I am going to…" rather than "I need to..." This mindset shift allows us to prayerfully posture ourselves in a way that invites God to move in our lives.

True changes come from God. Do not let another day pass without praying for the changes you desire. Keep in mind the joy in fellowship and how powerful that can be when making changes. Declare desired changes over your life, pray about them daily, and make minor adjustments accordingly. Ask God to help you change.
