Friday Fight 28 - Leaning On or Learning From?

Every Friday, when I wake and pray, God places something on my heart to help me fight darkness beginning in our minds. Today is FF28.

How often do we listen to a sermon or podcast and feel like there’s a camera hidden in our home? Whatever we heard aligns perfectly with a conversation you had with God. These moments of confirmation are a wonderful reminder of God’s perfect timing, but what happens when we start to rely too heavily on these moments, and our focus turns away from God?

Leaning On or Learning From?

Regardless of how impacted we are by others, we should continually be seeking God. Yes, these moments can resonate incredibly, but always remember that God perfectly crafted them to help us. God will surround us with more spiritually mature people to encourage and help us grow. What happens when we start leaning on those God sends rather than learning from them?

God shows His love by placing people around us to share our burdens and add value to our lives. But we can compromise our spiritual well-being if our desire for growth stops there. I believe wholeheartedly in counseling, small groups, mentoring, or any variation of walking with others, but we need to prioritize our relationship with God as well. God uses others in addition to our time alone with Him, not instead of our time alone with Him.

How does darkness work? First, a pull in our flesh increases our desire to rely on people to fill voids and decreases our willingness to rely on God. Second, listening to manipulated truth, creating a pattern for us to lean on others, breaking our dependency on God.

How do we fight? Use those God sends to grow spiritually, learning from the perfectly crafted moments but still pursuing a close relationship with Christ. Remember to seek God first in all things. Posturing ourselves with a character of Christ is essential and Biblical; however, be aware that darkness wants to increase our dependency on others and decrease our dependence on God.
