Friday Fight 273: When Heaven Seems Silent
Every Friday morning, during my quiet time with the Lord, He faithfully places something on my heart that speaks to the subtle, internal battles many of us face. This is Friday Fight 273.
There are moments in life when God can feel a million miles away. Perhaps you pray, but no answers come. You worship, but your heart doesn't feel what it once did. You remember a time when God's presence seemed so real that you could almost reach out and touch it. Then you wonder what happened or if you did something wrong. But what if the problem is not that God moved?
When Heaven Seems Silent:
Heaven may seem silent and God distant, but what if He is still right where He has always been? I have been working on a project with my father's sermons, compiling the lessons the Holy Spirit placed on his heart for our family. Years after his death, I am still learning from those messages. As I work through these words, I am continually reminded that just because we cannot always feel God’s presence does not mean He has abandoned His children.
So why does it sometimes feel like God was closer yesterday than He is today?
Maybe there was a season when prayer felt easy, worship felt powerful, and you felt God's presence in a way that seemed undeniable. Then something changed. Excitement faded, and life became difficult. The answers stopped coming. Somewhere along the way, you began to wonder if He moved away from you. But God has not moved.
One of my father's messages reminds us that when we live for ourselves, our lives can become consumed by ourselves. But when we live unto God, we discover that true life is found in Him. Meaning and purpose come when we surrender our lives to Him and allow His presence to fill every part of our lives.
That is a powerful reminder because our circumstances change. Our emotions change. Even our perception of God can change. But God Himself never does.
We sometimes make the painful mistake of believing that God has moved on to someone more important, more needy, or more deserving. When we struggle, we assume He is farther away and need to be reminded of this lie. When someone else receives an answer to prayer, we wonder why God seems to be blessing them instead of us. When our spiritual lives feel dry, we may conclude that we have somehow been forgotten.
But our feelings do not measure God's faithfulness.
So how do we move forward? We stop measuring God's presence by what we feel and begin trusting who He is.
There will be seasons when you feel close to God and seasons when you do not. Some prayers receive immediate answers, while others leave you waiting. There will be days when worship fills your heart with joy and days when you have to worship through tears.
But through every season, one truth remains:
God will never move.
Hebrews 13:5 (NLT) says, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”
Never.
When you cannot feel Him, He is still there. When you cannot hear Him, He is still there. When you cannot understand what He is doing, He is still there. God's silence does not equate to His absence.
Perhaps today you need to stop looking for evidence that God has left and start remembering His promise to stay. Go back to His Word, to prayer. Go back to worship. Go back to surrender.
People change.
Circumstances change.
Feelings change.
Seasons change.
But God does not.
So, when you feel distant, forgotten, or alone, remember:
God has not moved.
And He never will.
