Friday Fight 22 - The Weight of Waiting: Being Purposeful or Passing Time?

Every Friday, when I wake and pray, God places something on my heart to help me fight darkness beginning in our minds. Today is FF22.

How often do we say, "I can't wait until... vacation, my dream job, getting married, getting divorced, finishing college" on and on, sound familiar? How often do we wish for the weekend to come so we can relax? Pretty typical unless you work on the weekends, right? A mindset like this is different from procrastinating a Holy Spirit-placed plan; this Friday Fight is the naturally occurring changes of life and the weight of always looking forward to something else.

The Weight of Waiting: Being Purposeful or Passing Time?

What happens to our mindset when hoping our weekend begins on Tuesday morning? Do we go through the motions of the other days? How many times have we spoken the words, "I can't wait until…"? What happens while waiting? Perhaps we find our conversations centered around things to come more often than how God is currently working? When we constantly await future events, it is easy to lose sight of the value and joy of each day. Life is ever-changing, and it is customary to anticipate days off or time with family, but what happens to God's plan as we wait to feel that future joy in our lives again. It is easy to go from being purposeful to passing the time.

How does darkness work? Imagine your "wait for joy time" slowly increasing. Darkness will try to increase the time we are asleep to God's joy, no thriving, serving, surrendering, just going through the motions until that day or time of value in the future comes. We end up with lots of waiting days between valued days instead of each day being a blessing. We end up losing sight of serving God. Let's try to change our words from "I can't wait until…" to "I'm excited about today because…".

We were all created for a purpose that is not conditional on our perceived timing of something grand to come. So let's try to let the weight of waiting go and embrace walking in the purpose God created for our lives each day.
