Friday Fight 185: Your Kingdom come; Your will be done

Every Friday, when I wake and pray, God places something on my heart to help fight darkness beginning in our minds. Today is FF185.

What comes to mind when we think about God's will for our lives? For many of us, it is likely one particular category, like being with a significant other, having a specific career choice, or even volunteer work at church. We often ask God to reveal His will in one specific area of our lives without realizing we have failed to surrender other, more mundane things as well. Let's look at some foundational things that may help us understand this better and discover what God has been waiting for us to submit to Him.

Your Kingdom come; Your will be done:

Imagine if someone approached us and said, "God has a more significant plan for your life than you realize." How would we react? Our responses would vary but the truth is, our spiritual growth, healing, and ability to submit to His will are constantly expanding. Surrendering to Him means submitting to His authority and leadership over our lives. We could ask the Holy Spirit to reveal His will for our role within our family, workplace, church, or elsewhere. This surrender can transform our lives in ways we can't even imagine.

In the book of Genesis, Adam and Eve were tempted by the enemy and ultimately surrendered to the desires of their flesh. It was much more than darkness breaking their relationship with God, although this was devastatingly unrepairable. Another perspective would be to consider Satan's scheme to diminish God's plan for their lives and future generations to come.

As we reflect on the different things in our lives, what area have we not yet submitted to God? Let's pray and ask for the Holy Spirit's guidance in revealing God's intentions in a specific area and reclaim it from the enemy of our souls. The father of lies may seek authority in our lineage without us even recognizing it. God's will should lead us to the Word and our continued development in it and obedience to it. We must seek God's will in all areas of our lives, not just the ones that are convenient or easy to surrender. Matthew 6:10 says “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” We are praying to God for His purposes and plan in our lives rather than our own.

Consider this example: Suppose we fail to submit our finances and instead of tithing, we gamble and splurge as we desire. We are going against God’s will in this area and will need to pray and surrender. If we consistently lie to ourselves about 'deserving' to freely spend whatever we have, in our reluctance to surrender our finances, we could potentially contaminate the perspective of others, like our children. We may not change humanity like Adam and Eve, but our choices are still impactful to others, especially those closest to us.

Experiencing God's great plan requires constant surrender and prayer. Maybe God has revealed a geographical move, our future spouse, or to be part of a new church, but what else? Don't stop there; continually ask and remember we cannot walk in His will only when it easily aligns with our lives. We must decide to walk obediently regardless of the area of surrender. God’s plan will always be far greater than anything we could ever imagine! This week, let’s pray and ask the Holy Spirit for clarity and wisdom in fulfilling His purposes in all areas of our lives.
