Friday Fight 139: The Rhythm of Routine

Every Friday, when I wake and pray, God places something on my heart to help me fight darkness beginning in our minds. Today is FF139.

How often has an area of our life seemed a bit off balance, yet we can’t articulate what is wrong or how to fix it? If this sounds familiar, now may be a good time to reflect on our daily patterns and the pace at which they are conducted. Let's look at how our day-to-day routines can deny us blessings without realizing it.

The Rhythm of Routine:

We all follow rhythmic routines throughout our day, which can change depending on the stage of life we’re in. Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” We may not realize that these patterns can influence our spiritual lives by robbing us of the riches of God. Our shifting patterns that lack cohesiveness with God and others will inevitably accommodate chaos, causing problems in our lives and those around us.

So, what is this rhythmic pattern all about? We all operate at a certain pace; it could be fast, slow, or somewhere in between. We are either clinging to the world's drumming or adhering to the cadence of the Holy Spirit. Our daily journey is set by a tone that either fills our souls or prevents our spiritual filling. For example, we may begin our day with God but quickly become frustrated when our day slowly unravels. Our patterns, or how we conduct ourselves, best exemplify the Holy Spirit when adapted to His leading and speed. Disorder comes when we fail to remain under His truth and guidance. By giving everything to Him, even in turmoil, we can feel the steadiness and presence of God. So, our reliance on the Holy Spirit should continue throughout the day to prevent us from exposing our souls to the hectic drumming of the world.

Let's begin by looking at the pace of our daily patterns. The greatest example was Christ who was never in a hurry. It is an excellent time for self-reflection if our lives have endured an increased rhythm of hecticness or increased obligations. If we have no time to encourage a friend, pray with those in need, or be used by God to help those He sends, we have likely become tolerant and comfortable in this increased tempo. Satan works to ensure we have constant and hurried movement patterns, leaving us unable to see or hear God clearly throughout our day. Remember that the family's spiritual leader sets the whole family's spiritual tempo, and souls are compromised when this rhythm is off.

Jesus set the tone for the whole world to follow. Let's pray for each other and ask God for His peaceful composure according to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Let's be intentional about our daily patterns and rhythm, making us available for God to work in and through us. Let’s be intentional and enjoy our faithful rhythms of following Christ. When we do, not only are we blessed, but God uses us to become a blessing to others!

Today, I want to dedicate this post to Pastor John Lane, my dad. Thank you for being the most incredible man of God. What a blessing to be one of your children! I am so thankful for the love of Christ you instilled in me. Happy Heavenly Birthday, Dad. I love you.
