Friday Fight 125: Traveling the Road of Uncertainty

Every Friday, when I wake and pray, God places something on my heart to help me fight darkness beginning in our minds. Today is FF125.

How often do we feel the will of God lead us down a road not previously traveled? This path is a brand-new adventure; we are excited, maybe a bit shocked, but the joyous uncertainty can also feel a bit overwhelming. Since this new adventure is like no other, how do we navigate God’s travel plan for our lives?

Traveling the Road of Uncertainty:

As we travel this new adventure God has placed on our hearts, how often have we wondered if the road has an end point or if we should get out of the car? God could lead us to new depths of learning, a different career, a geographic change, or call us to serve Him in a way we never imagined. This new road traveling in God's will may include a new family addition, book writing, or a new relationship orchestrated by God with numerous confirmations, and apparent exceptions to rules we placed on our lives. Most importantly, our willingness to remain at peace despite the perceived road conditions ahead. Whatever the case, God calls us to walk in community and has already placed the perfect person right next to us for this journey. Proverbs 3:6 says, "In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."

As this new adventure begins, it may seem "out of nowhere" to us; However, God conceived it before we were born. He has been healing our hearts, preparing our spirits, and using other people to place directional confirmations around us and our journey. For analogy purposes, please refer to the picture included in this lesson.

The first thing that typically happens on a journey of significance is that darkness will offer an alternate route to derail God's plan. Its timing will seem perfect and conditions more favorable to lure us away from God's destination. But something in our spirit knows we are to remain on course. For example, when I realized God was calling me to work at my current school in the fall, I received an offer from another school to begin working the following week. Even though my income would have increased immediately, I knew this was not the route I should be taking. Because it can seem ideal or the perfect solution to those around us, remaining on course takes faith in God and not listening to those who believe we are making a mistake.

The list below can be applied as spiritual "rules of the road" as we journey with God, reaching new destinations created by Him.

▫️ We should not compare our destination to another's; doing so could diminish our ability to travel.

▫️ The weather will constantly change, so stay in the vehicle and focus on God together. (We are not the only travelers to endure these conditions).

▫️ Our perceived pace does not correlate with God's timing.

▫️ We may place multiple people in the vehicle for personal comfort. But did God intend for them all to be part of the journey? Be mindful and aware of distractions.

▫️ Refrain from looking in the rear-view mirror; the past is behind us.

▫️ Are we approaching debris in the road? No problem! Because of our surrender, God will graciously remove it.

▫️ Stop at rest areas that God reveals, not those we desire. Flesh-enticed exits often lead us to take alternate routes back to the highway. We could miss sections of the road that show blessings meant for us.

▫️ Does slowly moving seem like we are wasting time? Remember that God's power and intensity do not equal the momentum we feel ourselves traveling.

Following the will of God in obedience through surrender enables growth, healing, and blessings. Traveling a road of uncertainty is a journey of faith and continuous prayer, but we must remain in our vehicles and focus on Him to reach His plan. God will make our paths straight. This means those narrow and seemingly impossible stretches of road will be passable. In our commitment, debris will lift, roads will widen, roadwork will be successful, and storms will pass. God will reveal our course in the journey and provide everything we need to reach His ultimate destination. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
