Friday Fight 262: You’re Not Waiting on God—You’re Missing His Answer
Every Friday morning, during my quiet time with the Lord, He faithfully places something on my heart that speaks to the subtle, internal battles many of us face. This is Friday Fight 262.
How many times have we said we’re waiting on God for direction? We pray, ask, and wait for something clearer, louder, or unmistakable. Yet sometimes, what feels like silence isn’t God withholding an answer—it’s us overlooking the one He has already given.
You’re Not Waiting on God—You’re Missing His Answer
Something I’m asked more than anything is how to have clarity when praying for direction. Often, we assume God hasn’t answered because we haven’t heard anything new. But what if we’ve already heard from Him—and didn’t realize it? We tend to interpret silence as delay, so we keep praying, asking, and waiting for something clearer or undeniable. When nothing changes, we convince ourselves we’re in an “11:59 moment,” waiting for God to step in at the last second. But what if the issue isn’t God’s timing but our recognition?
I recently experienced this in a simple but revealing way. I was praying about a decision, asking God for direction and clarity. I wanted a clear sense of what to do next—but instead, I felt nothing. No new leading, no strong pull, just silence. So I kept praying.
Finally, I called my pastor, who helped me realize something I had completely missed. I had already talked through the situation with my husband. He listened, prayed, and shared his perspective. The direction and answer I needed were already in front of me.
Because I was waiting for God to answer in a specific way, I never considered what He had already done. God had already spoken—through my husband. As Proverbs 11:14 reminds us, “Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisers.” That truth became real to me when I realized God had already provided the counsel I was asking for, I just hadn’t recognized it as His answer.
In that moment, I realized the issue wasn’t that God hadn’t spoken—it was that I had limited Him by expecting Him to answer a certain way. God doesn’t only speak in moments of stillness or personal clarity. He speaks through wisdom, through counsel, and through people He has intentionally placed in our lives. I wasn’t waiting for an answer; I was waiting for it to show up differently.
When I finally recognized it, there was an immediate release. Not because something new was being said, but because I could finally see what had already been given. Sometimes we aren’t waiting on God to answer, but being reminded to recognize the ways He already has.
